Write for Angle Hozary: Your Voice. Our Wild Frontier.
Welcome to Angle Hozary — the definitive destination for explorers, survivalists, and curious observers of the untamed world. Founded by adventurer, storyteller, and gear guru Valdran Vornhaven, we dig into everything from horizon headlines few dare to notice to the finer skills of wilderness survival, down to the last ripped map and flickering compass. Based out of our alleyway outpost at 232 Lucky Duck Drive, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15219, we’re here from 9 AM to 5 PM, but our passion for backcountry living? That’s eternal.
We’re building a wildhearted community — seasoned trail veterans, gear junkies, amateur cartographers, stargazers, and storytellers with a taste for crooked paths and crooked truths. And now, we’re inviting you to step into the campfire circle and share your voice with the readers who get it — the ones who know what it means to be off the beaten path, both literally and editorially.
Why Write for Angle Hozary?
This isn’t a content factory. This is real talk from real people who’ve been out there. If you can write with the earth under your fingernails, if your vocabulary flares up when you say “rucksack” or “ridge line,” and if your prose can summon the sound of crackling pine in a reader’s ear — then we want you on board.
- Push the Horizon: We don’t just cover breaking news; we chase it where the pavement ends. Write something the average desk dweller won’t ever see on their default feed.
- Explore Undiscovered Gear Wisdom: Deep-dive reviews, gear confessions, stress tests in sleet — the kind of insight you only get when you’ve relied on your boots through two resupplies and a leech-infested swamp.
- Teach the Forgotten Arts: Fieldcraft. Orienteering. Water purification using the sun, your sock, and a prayer. We love the wild, but we thrive on cleverness—and so does our audience.
- Tell Real Stories: The bear that didn’t charge, the map that saved you, the night you learned that “local shortcut” meant four extra miles uphill. Let’s hear it.
What We’re Looking For
Your voice matters. And so does your perspective, your experience, your little-known trail, your rebellious insight. Here’s where you could shine:
- Horizon Headlines: The world-breakers and changemakers way out on the periphery. News that matters to people at the edge of comfort zones.
- Gear Deep Dives: Not just specs — we want grit, gear-toughness, and fail points under pressure. Bonus points for gear used during failed expeditions.
- Skills & Survival: Let’s go beyond fire starting. Think foraging in winter, navigation by sound, or how to stay still enough to avoid wild detection.
- Places the Web Forgot: We’re talking waterfalls without hashtags. Campsites that aren’t on AllTrails. Outposts where signal dies and stories live.
We’re especially interested in writers whose content feels like a backcountry conversation — a little weathered, fully informed, but never preachy. Technical accuracy matters, but human storytelling still stands tall.
Submission Guidelines
We’ve kept it simple, like any good trail marker.
- Articles should be around 800–1,500 words. Precision matters, but so does rhythm. We favor flowing readability and action.
- Include any photos, maps, sketches, or field logs that add weight to your narrative. Terrain pictures? Yes. Tent selfies? Not so much.
- Send us your work as an attached doc or share a link to a portfolio. Originality is key — if it’s already been published, let us know where and when.
- We review drafts promptly. Accepted pieces may be lightly edited for clarity and structure, but your voice remains your own.
Submitting is easy. Simply email us your pitch, draft, or just say hey with an idea you’re exploring. Use the subject line: “Writer Submission – [Your Article Title]” to help us keep track.
What You Get
We’re proud of our team of contributors, and we don’t believe in experience without reward. When you write for us, here’s what you can expect:
- Byline Credit: Your name, bio, and (if you’d like) a link to your personal blog or socials. This is your voice, your work, and your audience to build.
- Direct Exposure to Readers Who Care: Our engaged readers don’t skim. They download, print, map check, and pack your insights. They trust the Angle Hozary voice because it’s been earned.
- Editorial Collaboration: You’ll work with editors who’ve pitched tents in wind tunnels, not just in cafes. We know where you’re coming from — and help make your work shine.
- Compensation: We believe in fair exchange, and strong work is rewarded. Payment details are discussed upon acceptance of your piece.
